Bergamo Event
We arrived in Bergamo (northern Italian city) late in the afternoon. It was noteworthy to see how our comfortable room was also fully equipped with many electronics, which we found unfamiliar. At the bedside was a series of controls where I managed to activate a radio.
I’m going to shower, I said as my wife began stowing away our clothing.
As I was enjoying the flow of warm water, I noticed a short cable with a handle hanging from the tile wall. What’s the purpose of this, I wondered. Curiosity got the best of me, and I pulled the handle.
The device dislodged from the wall and fell into my hands. A loud siren started blaring. I left the shower and looked into the hallway. Flashing above our door was a red light. The blaring siren continued.
At the bedside, I found a toggle switch with a figure of a man imprinted. Ah, ha, this will be helpful, I thought as I hit the switch.
I was drying my hair with a towel when I heard my wife open the door. A woman’s voice was speaking in Italian. I thought she would go to the shower to handle the problem. But no, she entered the room, crawled under the bed, and disconnected the electronics. The siren went silent.
As I stood naked with a towel on my head, the woman looked up and said continua. Viewing this scene, my wife burst into laughter, and the woman was smiling. I realized that my dilemma had amused them. At least they didn’t seem upset by foolish error.
Later, while enjoying a delicious dinner of risotto Milanese, I received a gentle scolding.
Then she said, I love you so much.
