Demanding a child follow a parent’s preset plan for the
youngster’s future may lead to rebellion. Junior should do this and
not that, let’s show him the pathway to our vision for his life.
It is natural for parents to wish the best for their children.
Parents may introduce science, art, music, engineering, and
more; by visiting museums, libraries, and cultural events. Parental
guidance and shared experiences are valuable.
As a child, I was always encouraged to pursue my art. I did
love to draw and create. As a teenager, I began to paint on
canvas, developing an interest in the fine arts. My family became
very convinced that I was heading towards a Bohemian lifestyle.
My father’s friends and relatives descended on me with tales of
the harrows of such a profession. In contrast, they promoted the
idea of focusing on Advertising Art. To my young mind, it was
obvious that they knew none of which they spoke.
Pressure mounted. At that time, my father’s boss proposed a
marriage for me to his daughter. My family was agreeable, the girl
was nice, and her family had some wealth. The bride-to-be did not
object – but I did. “Enough,” I said and joined the army.
Hey! All was well. While in the army, I learned to take the helm
and steer my own life.
